When you come in for a hearing test, we will test for a variety of potential hearing problems. We will test your ability to hear different pitches and tones as well as test your speech reception threshold, or how well you can hear and understand normal speech. We also test your eardrums and inner ear. With these tests we can diagnose any hearing loss and decide on a plan of action to treat it.
Hearing loss isn’t always obvious. If you find you have any of these symptoms, you should get your hearing checked:
- Difficulty keeping up in conversations:
You may avoid large groups because you often can’t hear what everyone says. You may also frequently ask people to repeat what they say once or multiple times.
- Ringing in your ears:
While ringing might be common after being in a loud place, if you experience consistent ringing or buzzing sounds, you most likely have a hearing issue.
- Loud living or work environment:
Regardless of age and care, those who live or work in a loud environment are at a higher risk of hearing loss.
While these are good indicators of hearing loss, we recommend that everyone, even those without these symptom, get their hearing checked every year or two to identify potential problems or risks.
